Theme of this research is the duality of emigrant’s consciousness arising from cultures layering. The emigrant’s consciousness exists in 2 cultural modes: country of the origin and country of the residence. A distinctive feature of the duality is retrospectivity, comparison with previous experience and construction of an old behavior patterns in a new place. This strategy easily creates comfortable conditions of living, but complicates an adaptation. I use a method of estrangement to slow down the perception, fix this specific in-between position and preserve a fresh eye to turn duality of consciousness into advantage. 

I started with everyday practice tracking my routes with Google maps to rethink it afterwards. It’s the first stage of estranging the walk — fixing the physical exploration of space and transferring physics to a digital environment. The second stage of estranging is the inversion of the digital route into an analog form and its manual elaboration with embroidery.
