Inter Grace — a street art project about merging with external environment. While finding a new home, an emigrant assimilates into a new society, gradually acquiring its inherent features. Through a collage with motifs of an urban landscape, I reflect on how this process takes place physically, because in a new country it is possible to form not only another identity, but also body. An attempt to see one’s own body through the prism of another culture, mimicry under its standards or defending one’s vision can change the emigrant’s self-positioning and self-perception in a significant way.
Private photo not intended for prying eyes, but placed on a street, emphasizes vulnerability during such metamorphoses and an open demonstration of the merging process between the body and the environment.
I chose the iconic building of Belgrade — the Genex Tower as environment marker. It was the first building I noticed when I entered the city by a taxi. Now I live nearby and every evening I see its light from the window. Brutalist architecture and socialist style buildings are the visual features of Belgrade, through which I began to form a sense of home.
