Cut out, 2023

A work I made in Belgrade under
relocation conditions. It comprehends the theme of emigration and
reflects an attempt to feel belonging to a new place. But
against it there is only a persistent feeling of forced
alienation from the past, from familiar, from new, even from oneself. The
moment when old connections become weaker and new ones haven’t been
established yet. And a person is in a provisional
emotional and social vacuum alone with yourself.
I try to mythologize the everyday life of an emigrant, using the traditional form of a still life, the object of which is a dried piece of bread, as an example of the most affordable and unpretentious food. A new wave of emigration — and new people are chewing their sandwiches in crowded waiting rooms, feeling like fragments of a society that has cracked.
